about

The title of this piece is inspired by the process whereby plants, in order to survive and grow, draw water from the ground. It’s metaphorical meaning is not just with reference to the growth of structure within the piece, I have also heard recordings of the process in plants which is reminiscent of the abrasive staccato sound in the piece, seemingly having a life of its own. The textures beneath these sounds evoke observing the same element at different stages of evolution.
